RAM

Mixed5/10Budget

Crucial memory was a trusted plain-and-reliable choice, but Micron wound down the consumer brand to prioritise AI and data-centre customers. In 2026 some warranty claims were met with refunds of the original price instead of replacements, with reversals after public backlash. Buy only if a leftover kit is clearly cheaper.

Good at

  • Micron-made chips; JEDEC kits were very reliable
  • Crucial Pro DDR5 was a sensible no-RGB default
  • Micron says it still honours existing warranties

Weak at

  • Discontinued: shipments to retailers ended February 2026
  • Only leftover or second-hand stock remains
  • 2026 claims settled with refunds far below replacement cost

SSD

Mixed5/10Budget

Crucial SSDs were a common value choice, but Micron exited the consumer business and new stock stopped shipping in February 2026. Warranty support continues on paper, though some 2026 claims were offered refunds at the original price. Consider it only for clearly discounted leftover stock.

Good at

  • T500, T705 and P310 were well reviewed
  • MX500 was a long-running reliable SATA drive
  • Micron-made NAND on most models

Weak at

  • Discontinued: shipments ended February 2026
  • P2 moved from TLC to slower QLC NAND in 2020
  • BX500 and P3 are QLC or DRAM-less with weak long writes
  • 2026 claims offered refunds instead of replacements
