Hard drive (HDD)

Good7.5/10Budget

Toshiba is the third hard-drive maker and a value pick, with N300 NAS and MG enterprise drives often undercutting WD and Seagate. Backblaze results are mixed: several MG models do very well, while one needed firmware fixes in 2025. Good for price-conscious NAS builds.

Good at

N300 is often the cheapest CMR NAS drive per terabyte
MG enterprise drives are good value for home servers
N300 Pro and MG get a five-year warranty

Weak at

Some P300 desktop drives used SMR, disclosed in 2020
Backblaze figures mixed; one 16TB MG model had firmware woes
Smaller range and fewer retail models
