Air conditioner / heat pump

Mixed6.5/10Budget

Midea is one of the world's biggest AC makers, and its budget split systems and US window units get good reviews for efficiency and quiet running. A 2025 US recall of U-shaped window units dented its record. Good value where local support exists.

Good at

Very low prices for inverter heat pumps
U-shaped window AC praised as quiet and efficient
Makes ACs sold under many other brands

Weak at

U-shaped window ACs recalled in 2025 for mould risk
Installer and service network thin in NZ

Best for: Budget buyers who can check local installer support
