Bookmark Ext
Links that take a value: type a word, press Enter, and it opens with the word in the URL. Plain links live on Bookmark; both show on Desktop, each in its own widget.
Bookmark Ext is per account — sign in to see and save yours.
Instructions
Links that take a value, kept against your account: a URL template with one {WORD}-style placeholder becomes a box and a link, so a dictionary lookup or a ticket number is one field and one click instead of a bookmark per word. Plain links are on Bookmark.
- The page opens in use mode: type into a link's box and press Enter, or click the link. It opens with the value put into the URL. Add, left of Edit, opens the Add link form without leaving use mode.
- Edit shows every link with a ⋮⋮ grip to drag it into place (or focus the grip and press ↑/↓), ✎ for its settings and 🗑 to delete. Under ✎, Ask for it switches between a box beside the link and a dialog when you click it, and Show on Desktop decides whether the Desktop widget lists it. Done goes back.
- Add link (from Add, or at the top of edit mode) takes a name and a URL with one placeholder in braces — e.g.
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/{WORD}orhttps://fishapple.atlassian.net/browse/{KEY}. Press Enter and it goes to the end of the list; the form clears for the next one. - Bulk edit (in edit mode) shows every link as text, one row each: name, URL template, note and Desktop, as CSV. A row finds its link by name or by URL, so rename a link or change its URL, but not both in one save. Edit it in the box, or Copy it into a spreadsheet or editor and Paste it back. It is checked as you type, and Save all stays off until it is valid and changed; Cancel drops it. Labels, last values and Ask mode are kept — set those under ✎.
Tips
- A value belongs to its placeholder's name: every link using
{WORD}shares the last word typed, so looking it up in one dictionary fills in the others. One placeholder per link for now — a second{…}stays as literal text. - Values are percent-encoded, so a phrase with spaces works — and a
/becomes%2F. An inline link with an empty box stays greyed out: opening it would request a URL with a hole in it. - Stored in S3 under
users/<you>/bookmark/bookmark-ext.json, one object per account, next to your bookmarks — so values follow you between machines. They are data, not secrets: do not put credentials in a URL template. This browser keeps just the search box. - Links with a
{KEY}used to live in Bookmark. They were moved here once, automatically, with their labels and last values, the first time your bookmarks were opened after the split. A{KEY}in a bookmark is plain text now. - There is no Save button — every change schedules a write, and the label beside the toolbar says whether it has landed. If the list changed somewhere else since this page loaded, the save is refused and you are asked which version to keep.
- Hit Example, then click the search box for a sample search. Nothing that writes a link is an example target.
